[ARCHIVED] Accepting Board and Commission Applications

Are you interested in becoming more involved in the happenings of your Town?  Are you interested in volunteering some of your time to become more involved in your local government and its processes?  The Town of Sunnyvale is seeking volunteers to fill upcoming vacancies on several of its Boards and Commissions.  The purpose/duties required of each of these boards/commissions are as follows:

4A Development Corporation:  The primary role of the 4A Development Corporation is the promotion and development of new or expanded business enterprises within the Town.  The Corporation is governed by the Development Corporation Act of 1979, and is comprised of a five (5) member board of directors, who serve two-year, staggered terms and at the pleasure of the Town Council.  The 4A Corporation meets at Town Hall once a month as needed, on the second Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m.

The 4A Development Corporation is appointed by the Town Council and is comprised of five (5) regular members who serve two-year, staggered terms.

4B Development Corporation:  The primary role of the Sunnyvale 4B Development Corporation is to help develop and diversify the economic, recreational, educational and cultural aspects of the Town.  The 4B Corporation meets once a month as needed, on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

The 4B Development Corporation is appointed by the Town Council and is comprised of seven (7) regular members who serve two-year, staggered terms.

Board of Adjustment:  The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board whose purpose is to conduct hearings and take action regarding variance requests of anyone seeking relief from the literal enforcement of the Unified Development Ordinance.  The Board may also hear and decide any appeals alleging an error in an administrative official’s interpretation of the Unified Development Ordinance.  The Board of Adjustment meets regularly on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Board of Adjustment is appointed by the Town Council and is comprised of five (5) regular members (and two alternates) who serve two-year staggered terms. 

Library Board:  The Library Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Council and the Library Director by making recommendations pertaining to all matters of the library. These include recommendations on budgetary items, fees, programming, facilities, internal policies, long range planning, etc.  The Library Board meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

The Library Board is appointed by the Town Council and is comprised of seven (7) regular members (and two alternates) who serve two-year, staggered terms. 

Planning and Zoning Commission:  The Planning and Zoning Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Council by making recommendations on a multitude of planning and zoning issues related to development activity in the Town.  These include consideration and action items pertaining to concept plans, preliminary plats, site plans, final plats, special use designations, zoning changes, Unified Development Ordinance text amendments, Comprehensive Plan updates/amendments, etc.  The Planning and Zoning Commission meets regularly every third Monday of the month at 7 p.m., as well as for specially called meetings and joint workshops with the Town Council and other boards and commissions.
