1. Is there any way I can help out the shelter and animals?

Because of the small size of Sunnyvale’s impoundment facility there is no need for volunteers. But there are many ways that you can help the animals through donations. There is always a need for blankets, towels, food, treats, and toys. If you’re not sure what to bring, a gift certificate can be provided and used to get what the animals need. Anything is of great help and tax deductible.

2. How many dogs can I have in Sunnyvale?

If you live on less than 2 acres of land you are allowed a maximum of 4 adult dogs and one litter of puppies at any given time.

If you live on more than 2 acres of land there is no constraint on the limit of dogs as long as the animals are properly confined to your property and provided with sufficient food, water, and shelter.

3. I hear something moving around in my attic, what do I do?

You may contact an exterminator or wildlife removal service, or Sunnyvale Animal Control provides live humane trap rentals to Sunnyvale Residents. You may come to Town Hall and present a $50 deposit check, which will be returned when the trap is brought back, and we will loan out a live humane trap for you to capture the animal. Our Animal Control Officer will assist you with the operation and baiting of the device and will pick up and relocate any animals captured.

4. What are the fees and holding period if my animal is impounded?

Impoundment fee is $25. There is a fee of $7 each day the animal is boarded at our facility.

An animal will be held for at least 72 hours to find its owner before being placed for adoption. If there is more reason to expect an owner i.e. registration or other tags, collar, the waiting period will be extended before becoming available for adoption.

5. Do you euthanize the animals?

Sunnyvale Animal Control is committed to finding unclaimed strays new homes. Each animal is evaluated by our Animal Control Officer, and if seen fit, is placed for adoption. There is no “time limit” for an animal to be adopted. Every effort will be made to find them their new family. If there is limited space the animal will be transferred to another shelter with a high adoption rate. Only in cases of extreme illness or aggression will an animal be humanely euthanized.

Regular traffic court is held on Thursdays at 3pm.

1. Is the Sunnyvale Fire Department a full-time department?

Sunnyvale Fire Department is a combination department. We are staffed by Professional Firefighters and EMT’s from 7am-5pm Monday to
Friday and covered by volunteer’s during the rest of the time.

2. How do I become a volunteer?

meetings are every Thursday at 7:00pm at Station 1. There is a process to go through to become a member and we have capped our membership at 50.

3. How many vehicles do we have in the fire department?

We have three engines,two brush trucks, two ambulances, a command truck and a utility and light truck

4. How many Fire Stations are in Sunnyvale?

Sunnyvale Fire Rescue has 3 stations. Station 1 is the only manned station Monday-Friday 7am-5pm.
