This morning, the Sunnyvale Police Department apprehended the suspect from Thursday night’s manhunt near the Meadowlake subdivision off Jobson Road. He was unarmed when located.
The suspect was the subject of a police chase that originated in Kaufman County as a stolen vehicle call. The suspect crashed his car on U.S. 80 near Jobson Road. He fired shots at police and ran from the scene on foot into the wooded area nearby. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office lead the 16-hour pursuit and search, along with Sunnyvale Police and law enforcement from several surrounding communities. The Sunnyvale Police Department located the suspect on nearby private property at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Sunnyvale turned the suspect over to Kaufman County.
“Our police department is just one reason Sunnyvale continues to be one of the safest communities in North Texas,” said Sunnyvale Mayor Saji George. “I’m proud of the persistence and professionalism our officers exhibited during this extraordinary situation.”
The mayor also expressed his appreciation to the area law enforcement agencies who assisted and to the community for their patience during the ongoing shelter in place conditions.
The following agencies were part of the response Thursday night and Friday morning: Sunnyvale Police and Fire Departments, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Forney Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Mesquite Police Department, Department of Public Safety Air 1, Balch Springs Police Department, Richardson Police Department, Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers, Dallas Police Department, Kaufman County Pct. 2 Constables Office, Texas Department of Corrections Tracking Team out of Bonham, Texas and Garland Police Department SWAT for their collective efforts assisting in the apprehension of both arrestees.
The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Omar Robledo charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Public Servant. A passenger in the stolen vehicle, 20-year-old Alejandro Honorato-Calderon, has been arrested and charged with various drug charges.
